Quelle driver pour un ATI ?
Bonjour,
je voulais savoir, j'ai lu les posts qui explique comment installer tel ou tel driver mais ma question est : lequel est preferable et pourquoi ?
J'ai une ati Radeon 9200 SE (RV280 ?) 128 Mo, je tourne pour l'instant avec les drivers libres Radeon. avec glxgears je suis à 950 FPS ce qui me semble bas. Dois - je changer de driver pour passer aux drivers proprietaires ? Quels sont les avantages de l'un ou de l'autre ?

Salut,
normalement avec ta carte graphique tu devrais obtenir beaucoup plus de fps avec le driver libre, poste ici ton fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Pour les avantages/inconvénients des deux drivers:
Driver libre:
++ Il est libre Tu n'as pas quitté Windows pour continuez à utiliser du propriétaire quand même?
++ Il est intégré dans le noyau et dans Xorg, cela signifie qu'il fonctionnera toujours avec la dernière version du noyau et de X.org, donc pas de problème aux changements de version.
++ Il permet d'utiliser AIGLX pour avoir un bureau 3D avec Beryl ou Compiz sans se prendre la tête
-- Il ne fonctionne pas très bien avec toutes les cartes ATI, et pas du tout(pour le moment) avec les toutes dernière cartes.
-- Il peut parfois être instable, surtout si on bidouille les options.
Driver propriétaire:
++ Il fonctionne avec beaucoup de cartes, surtout les plus récentes.
++ Les performances sont plutôt correctes avec toutes les cartes supportés
-- Pour avoir un bureau 3D il faut utiliser XGL ce qui implique de nombreuses bidouilles, et pour repasser à un bureau "normal" de se déconnecter/reconnecter ce qui devient vite lourd
-- Les anciennes cartes ne sont pas supportés, ce qui oblige à utiliser une ancienne version du driver qui est peut-être bugué ou qui peut contenir des failles de sécurités.
-- De l'avis de beaucoup, ces drivers sont bugués.
-- C'est du propriétaire! On ne sait pas ce que fait le driver, si une faille est découverte il faut attendre le bon vouloir d'ATI pour avoir une correction, et tous les défauts qu'on peut trouver avec un logiciel propriétaire, en plus c'est un module noyau donc si ça plante ou si ça bugue, ça peut faire très mal(bon c'est vrai aussi pour le driver libre, mais si il y a un bug qui fait tout planter il est corriger plutot vite).

J'ai fait quelques tests, particulierement en changant l'AGPSize (ainsi que dans le bios) et l'AGPMode qui par defaut etaient à 8 et 4 respectivement mais ca na rien changé... J'ai aussi ajouter des options comme "AccelMethod" "XAA" mais la encore ca ne change rien (de toutes facons c'est la valeur par defaut...).

Je ne suis pas certain que l'acceleration fonctionne : j'ai ecrit un programme opengl qui ajoute, à la demande, des polygones à afficher dans une fenetre ; plus il y a de polygones, plus le % d'occupation de ma cpu augmente...
En revanche quand je fait glxgear, le % d'occupation de ma cpu ne varie pas sensiblement...

D'après ce que dit glxinfo tu as le direct rendering d'activé et normalement tu devrais avori de bien meilleurs perfomances que ça. Essaye pour voir de commenter la ligne
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
de ton xorg.conf étant donner que tu as une carte AGP et non PCI
EDIT: Ah je viens de voir que tu es sous Dapper et je crois bien que la version du driver libre dans dapper est trop vieille et gère mal la 3D, je te conseille donc de passer à Edgy ou d'attendre Feisty qui semble beaucoup plus stable.

A noter aussi que, depuis que j'ai fait la mise à jour, quand je lance des applications 3D j'ai le message :

Je voudrais savoir lequel des pilotes est le mieux sachant que j'iamerai bien utiliser compiz pour voir un peu (je ne suis qu'un jeune padawan dans linux).

En fait il n'y a pas d'acceleration materiel au sens utilisation des fonctions 3D de la carte video. Au mieux il y a un acces direct à la memoire... C'est le cpu qui fait le travail et ce doit etre aussi le cas pour toi mais tu dois avoir un processeur plus puissant que le mien et c'est pour cela que tu as de meilleurs perf...
Mesa implemente les fonctions opengl de maniere soft... Il y a bien un module dri mais je pense qu'il se limite à un acces direct à la memoire/agp.

Effecitvement, j'ai un pentium M 1,73 GHz et mes ventilateurs tournent pas mal, par contre je crois que l'accélération 3D matérielle est supporté pour les cartes << Radeon 9500, en effet dans mon /var/log/Xorg.0.log j'ai:

Et d'ailleurs il est possible que si tu n'as pas un bon score à glxgears c'est que c'est ta carte qui le gère en matérielle mais qu'elle ne permet pas d'avoir de bons scores avec(ce qui ne veut rien dire d'ailleurs, glxgears n'est pas un benchmark) et ton processeur est peut-être utilisé avec ton programme en openGL car ta carte n'est pas assez récente pour gérer les fonctions qu'elles utilisent.
Lance un grep -C2 Render /var/log/Xorg.0.log et on devrait être fixé

Il y a bien deux choses :
Direct rendering enabled
et
Render acceleration enabled
Je pense bien que le Direct rendering est un acces direct à la memoire alors que Render acceleration c'est bien les fonctions 3d de la carte.
En revanche ce qui me surprend c'est que quand l'economiseur d'ecran se met en route le cpu tourne à fond ou quand j'utilise un prog opengl la cpu est aussi tres solicite.
Je vais voir des que j'ai un peu de temps je teste un jeu 3d...
Est-il possible de tester "facilement'" les drivers ati ? et surtout de pouvoir revenir en arriere si ca ne fonctionne pas. La je pourrais vite voir si l'acceleration fonctionne...
et sais tu ce qu'est Pitch for acceleration = 160
En tout cas merci de ton aide...

Pour tester les drivers ati: http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/fglrx#installation
Si tu es sous ubuntu tu peux remettre les pilotes libres en décochant la case que tu auras coché dans le gestionnaire des pilotes propriétaires, par contre sous kubuntu il faudra désinstaller les paquets xorg-driver-fglrx et réinstaller libgl1-mesa-glx .

Salut , moi aussi je suis assez bas : j'ai 1200 si je touche a rien, si je clique avec la souris sur une autre fenetre je passe a 900 et des fois moins....
J'ai bien le direct rendering a yes
Peut etre que c'est les performances de la carte??!
Je suis sous ubuntu studio donc Feisty... les fglrx ne marchent pas (je crois qu'il ne supportent plus en dessous de la 9500)....
Tout le monde parle de "gestionnaire de drivers proprietaire" je l'ai bien mais quand je le lance il me dit toujours , votre materiel ne necessite pas de drivers propriétaires...?!! pourquoi a tout le monde il propose une croix a cocher ??
Dernier truc , votre tv out marche avec la 9200 ? si oui comment vous avez fait ?
