Branchement d'écran => ubuntu super lent

Bonjour,

Hier j'ai allumé mon ordi portable et j'ai lancé Ubuntu sans m'apercevoir que j'avais laissé branché (sur mon ordi portable) un autre écran (via Nvidia) [j'avais utilisé 2 écrans avec WinXP quelques heures avant]. Je n'ai rien vu aparaitre sur l'écran de mon portable (l'affichage se "faisant" sur l'autre écran éteint) alors j'ai éteint mon ordi en gardant enfoncé le bouton power (à l'arrache koi, je sais c'est pas bien, je le ferai plus).
Je me suis aperçu du branchement du 2ème écran, je l'ai débranché et j'ai rallumé mon ordi. Depuis Ubuntu rame à mort !! (même après plusieurs démarrages)

J'ai 64.5 de CPU pour gnome-terminal, 13.4 de CPU pour Xorg ...
il arrive que xorg monte à 50% de CPU.

Je voulais savoir si ma mauvaise manipulation était à l'origine de la lenteur et s'il était possible de retrouver l'état normal en tapant une ligne de commande.

En cherchant sur le forum, j'ai appris l'existence du fichier de conf de xorg (/etc/X11/xorg.conf), j'ai jeté un oeil dessus mais je n'ai rien vu d'anormal (enfin, je suis débutant alors), est-il possible que celui-ci ait été modifié automatiquement par l'ajout d'un 2ème écran ?

je précise qu'avant ma mauvaise manipulation, tout fonctionnait du tonnerre.
personne n'a une petite idée ? snif...
