échec au démarrage du serveur X

Bonjour à tous,

Voilà je viens de m'acheter un nouveau portable (Asus A6KT), et j'ai décidé d'installer Ubuntu (breezy version 64 bits) (je précise que je suis un novice en ce qui concerne linux, tout juste quelques notions).

Tout d'abord j'avais un problème directement au lancement de l'installation mais je l'ai résolu en spécifiant l'option "acpi=off" (je le précise au cas où cela aurais un rapport avec mon problème). Donc l'install ce passe bien, mais lors du premier démarrage, je me retrouve avec l'erreur suivante :

échec au démarrage du serveur X.
Il est probablement mal configuré.

j'ai essayé un "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" mais ça n'a rien donné.

PS : ma carte graphique est une ATI X1600
