Je te conseille de copier "proprement" ton /home sur une partition ext3/ext4 de ton disque usb par la commande :
sudo  cp  -a  /home/ton_user/.  /dossier_sur_usb/

C'est toujours pifométrique. je mettrais 25Go en / - 4 Go en swap - le reste en /home (/ et /home sont à partinionner en ext4)

Tu pourrais en effet créer une partition /home, c'est plus facile en cas de réinstall .

Par exemple / 50 Go ext4
                     /home 150 Go ext4

Puis lors de l'install choisir "autre chose" et affecter ces partitions aux bon points de montage.
