accélération graphique matérielle et résolution d'écran

Hello!
et bien voila, je viens d'installer le driver ati avec envy.
mon pc est un p4 3ghz 1Go ram carte pcie 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV530 [Radeon X1600]. mon ecran est un acer al1916w qui théoriquement supporte une résolution de 1440x900 a 75hz.

mon probleme est complexe, je ne sait pas si c'est lié d'ailleurs :

1) pas d'accélération graphique matérielle ( si j'en crois le forum )

et le cpu tourne à 98%/100% ds top

2) impossible de mettre la resolution citée plut haut dans mon xorg sans planter tout...
le voila le vilan xorg!

et dans systeme resolution ecran il n'y a que 6 choix comparés au 12 ici.

et le dernier probleme, le pécé freeze, l'image gèle quand j'ouvre plus de 4 pages internet...
je viens de réinstaller car le swap ne fonctionnait pas précedemment, la cela fonctionne de ce coté mais ça plante tjrs...

s'il existe des ubunteros charitables qui peuvent m'aider, je leur serai vraiment reconnaissant.
mais le probleme n'est il pas le harware? la carte ati?

Ce n'est pas du 1440x900 que tu veux ? Faudrait p't'être changer ça...
