Le Disque Dur s'emballe
Bonjour,
J'ai refait une installation sous 18.04 et, de temps à autre, le disque dur s'emballe, entraînant une forme de freeze (avec souris toujours active).
Il est nécessaire de redémarrer l'ordinateur pour retrouver une vie normale.
Le disque est un Samsung 1 To S-ATA II 32Mo (Spinpoint F3 - HD103SJ).
Les données SMART indiquent que le disque est sain, 7 secteurs endommagés.

Donc en session installée :
a) Installer l'utilitaire permettant de voir l'état du disque :
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends smartmontools
- -
b) Lire les données SMART complètes :
faire sans ajouter de chiffre :
sudo smartctl -s on -S on -o on -a /dev/sda
et en donner le retour complet et entre balises-code.

Quand "le disque dur s'emballe",
et seulement à ce moment-là, montre :
top -b -n1 | head -22
et
top -b -n1 -o %MEM | head -22

Le système est sur sdb, ce que j'ai indiqué dans la commande. Pour la commande quand le DD s'emballe, lorsque cela survient, je n'ai plus la main.

Ton SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ est en bon état.
Les secteurs endommagés sont sur un autre disque.
On attend donc les données smart de ton ou tes autres disques.
...Ainsi que les 2 autres commandes quand le système s'emballera.
Par ailleurs, ce que tu décris peut être le simple effet du swapping. Donc montre aussi
cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
Si c'est le cas, c'est facile à corriger.

Pardon pour le retard !
Tu as 12 Go de RAM et 1 Go de swap.
La commande cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness retourne le nombre 60
Alors on va commencer par abaisser le swappiness :
Sur la page swap, applique le § "Régler le déclenchement du fichier d'échange dès que la mémoire est utilisée a 95%", le problème devrait déjà se raréfier.
Finis en re-montrant

Ton adaptateur usb2 de disque est, avec le lecteur de cartes Alcor, intégré au panneau de façade , et il ne figure pas dans la liste des périphériques supportés par smartmontools :

Depuis les derniers échanges, le disque dur ne s'emballe plus comme précédemment (je me suis remis sur 18.04), mais j'ai toujours des lenteurs du système : lenteur au démarrage, souris qui se déplace de façon saccadée...

C'est une amélioration, mais cela me parait encore long. En furetant sur les forums, j'ai vu que des accès disques (paramétrages fstab ?) pouvaient être à l'origine des lenteurs, mais je n'ai pas compris le fonctionnement des commandes.
Pour mémoire : j'ai 2 disques durs physiques, l'un avec ubuntu 18.04 (principal), l'autre avec ubuntu 19.04 mais en sauvegarde. Ce second disque devait être le principal, mais les lenteurs d'exécution m'ont fait revenir sur le premier en 18.04.

1- je le fais avec la commande
sudo systemctl disable configure-printer@usb-001-003.service
mais visiblement il se remet tout seul ;
2- je n'ai plus le sentiment que ce soit le disque dur qui s'emballe, mais plutôt le processeur qui travaille beaucoup pendant plusieurs minutes (en tout cas la lampe d'activité reste allumée pendant plusieurs minutes).

Donc je te suggère :
- de désactiver définitivement apport (voire de le désinstaller) ;
- de désactiver le lancement automatique de fwupd (=firmware-update) (tu peux te contenter de le lancer à la main une fois par mois, au moment où tu as le moins besoin de ton ordi) ;
- de désinstaller stacer et tu purgeras plutôt à la main le cache de tes navigateurs au moment que tu jugeras opportun ;
- de remplacer un maximum de snaps accapareurs par les debs classiques équivalents qui, eux, n'imposeront pas leur chargement au démarrage du système ! (Et qui se laisseront configurer par tes soins, si tu le juges utile).

J'ai procédé aux manipulations suggérées, à part le remplacement des snaps, car je ne sais pas comment faire. Je suis demandeur d'un lien vers un tutoriel ou une explication pour le faire.
Le résultat reste médiocre, s'il en est :

J'ai profité de l'arrivée de Ubuntu 20.04 LTS pour mettre à jour mon système, mais les mêmes causes produisant les mêmes effets, le temps de démarrage reste toujours aussi long.

Je me suis penché alors sur les snap, consommateurs de temps de démarrage, en les supprimant radicalement
sudo apt purge gnome-software-plugin-snap
puis
sudo apt purge snapd
Cela a amélioré nettement le temps de démarrage, qui demeure toutefois assez long

Questions :
- sur les applications snap : je n'ai pas trouvé dans la documentation snap s'il était possible de ne pas les lancer au démarrage ;
- sur les autres (nombreux) services démarrés, peut-on trouver la liste des services indispensables au démarrage correct d'Ubuntu et, dans l'affirmative, existe-t-il un moyen de rétablir cette liste sans avoir à désactiver les services un par un.

Pour ta 18.04, après désinstallation des .snaps, il faut réinstaller les applis (seulement celles dont tu as besoin) sous la forme classique de .deb et pas de .snap !
