Même si ça ne semble pas requis pour cet appareil, Il faudrait peut-être tenter l'installation du greffon propriétaire, plugin, soit via la commande :
hp-plugin -i... soit en mode manuel, en récupérant l'archive .run correspondante à la version installée de hplip sur ce site :

désolé de n'avoir pas répondu plus tôt...
sane-airscan semble déjà installé , et après installation de hp-plugin -i, le problème reste toujours le même (je n'ai pas redémarré le PC entre l'installation et l'essai...).

j'ai une hp 5525.
en supprimant le paquet ipp-usb chez moi cela résout des problèmes de reconnaissance , de scanne.
Lu dans la doc ou sur les forums, je ne sais plus.
tu ne risque pas grand chose, je le fait depuis des années et tout fonctionne bien.

Incroyable, tout fonctionne parfaitement, c'est presque incroyable après tant de recherches...
J'ai suivi la procédure suivante : Gestionnaire de paquets Synaptic > Recherche du paquet ipp-usb, puis le marquer pour une suppression ; il y avait deux possibilités, soit une suppression, soit une suppression complète, j'ai choisi suppression "simple".
