Problème affichage en LiveCD

Voilà, au boulot, j'ai un pc sur lequel, une fois seul, je lance le liveCd d'Ubuntu...
C'est un PC Nec VL5.
L'affichage se fait en 640*480 avec des vagues (un peu comme quand on approche un GSM en fonction de l'écran).
Je dois passer en console, éditer xorg.conf et remplacer le driver Via par Vesa.
Je relance X, le système m'annonce être en 1600*1200*86Hz
Quand je check la fréquence du moniteur, il est en 60Hz et je vois pas ou changer cela...
Le moniteur est un Compaq P920
