Dans ta Xubuntu, essaie rawtherapee en session "invité" :
Si le problème est absent, c'est que la cause du problème est dans /home/xaktus (*) ;
Si le problème est présent, la cause du problème est à chercher dans la partie système de ta Xubuntu.
Si la cause du problème est à chercher dans la partie système,
Peux-tu montrer, pour chacun de tes deux *buntu :
lsb_release -d ; printenv GDMSESSION ; uname -mrset
dpkg -l | grep -Ei "rawtherapee|thumbnail"- -
Si la cause du problème est dans /home/xaktus,
tu as dans chaque home, caché :
un répertoire .rawtherapee/ et/ou
un répertoire .config/.rawtherapee/
Dans l'un de ces répertoires (ou directement dans ton home), tu as un fichier de configuration, portant un nom comme
rawtherapeerc ou rawtherapeerc.xml ou rawtherapee.conf ou rawtherapee.cfg.
Il te faudra et probablement suffira de 
comparer celui de /home/xaktus avec celui de /home/guest**** pour voir la cause du problème et sa solution.

En session "invité" les vignettes apparaissent.
Donc, si j'ai bien compris, le problème est "à chercher dans la partie système" de ma xubuntu.

/home/xaktus qu'est le problème, puisqu'il n'existe pas pour
/home/guest-****
Mais cette confusion n'est pas grave, puisque...
Bravo ! Tu as mis le doigt sur le fichier qu'il fallait !
Laisse-moi le temps de manger chaud et d'éplucher les 2 fichiers !
Pendant ce temps, prépare-nous le nom et le chemin exact de ce fichu fichier/paire de fichiers,

1) Sauvegarder le fichier en l'état :
cp -av /home/xaktus/.config/RawTherapee/options /home/xaktus/.config/RawTherapee/options.201802262) RawTherapee étant fermé,
édite le fichier /home/xaktus/.config/RawTherapee/options (l'original, pas la copie)
a) ligne 135, change
ToolPanelsExpanded=1;1;1;0;0;1;1;1;1;1;0;0;0;0;0;0;1;0;1;1;0;0;1;0;1;1;1;0;0;0;1;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;0;en

b) Et ligne 143, change

3) Relance RawTherapee.
4) Si ça ne suffit pas, il y aura plus radical, mais pour l'instant je préfère ne toucher qu'à ces deux lignes, dans l'idée que le reste du fichier contient peut-être d'autres réglages auxquels tu tiendrais..

Plus radical, donc :
1) Ferme RawTherapee
2) Exécute
cd /home/xaktus/.config/RawTherapee && mv -v options options.201802273) Relance RawTherapee

Re : Vignettes Rawtherapee [résolu]
J'ai passé la commande et lancé RawTherapee.
Les vignettes n'apparaissent toujours pas.
Comme le thème avait été changé, j'ai voulu remettre celui que j'utilise habituellement "gray-purple": RawTherapee a réagit en me disant qu'ubuntu avait rencontré un problème interne:

C'est xfwm, le gestionnaire de fenêtres de Xubuntu, qui n'a pas aimé.
Si tu n'as pas redémarré, montre vite
dmesg | grep -Evi "80211|dhcp|ipv6|network|ufw|wlan" | tail -200Ensuite, comme nous avons fait deux copies de sécurité , on va s'en servir !
Ferme RawTherapee, puis on rétablit le fichier "options" initial en copiant-collant :
cd /home/xaktus/.config/RawTherapee && mv -v options.20180226 optionsEt donnes-en le retour complet !
Puis relance RawTherapee.

C'est pourtant un retour qui inclut le prompt initial, la commande, le retour de la commande et le prompt final :
un retour de commande complet parfait.
Vocabulaire :
ce que tu as utilisé là, c'est le terminal, à ne plus confondre avec
mousepad qui est le banal éditeur de texte qui s'ouvre quand tu cliques sur un fichier .txt.
(Dans Xubuntu, l'éditeur de texte est mousepad,
dans Kubuntu, l'éditeur de texte est (sauf erreur de ma part) kate).

La suite me semble étrange :
- Aucun élément n'est daté de "un ou deux mois" (tout est daté soit d'avril 2016 (sortie de la 16.04) soit de ces 3 derniers jours.)

Entre les corruptions de droits et les options franchement exotiques de montage de tes partitions ntfs, options qui te font ouvrir périodiquement de nouveaux fils, je ne suis pas sûr que tu échappes longtemps à la réinstallation.
Ce sera simple si tu prépares la liste des points particuliers avant :
- écraser l'ancien home (pour ne pas récupérer les éléments foireux).
- garder le même nom d'utilisateur ("xaktus").
- pour les 2 ntfs du fstab, garder les mêmes points de montage qu'actuellement.
- pour les 2 ntfs du fstab, utiliser de bonnes options, donc finir leurs lignes comme ceci :
ntfs defaults,locale=fr_FR.UTF-8,nofail,uid=1000,gid=1000,windows_names 0 0 - lister les liens symboliques dans /home/xaktus et leurs cibles (ce que fait la dernière commande que je viens de te demander).
- sauvegarder d'abord - s'il y en a - les fichiers non masqués de /home/xaktus.
- liste à compléter si tu as d'autres idées.

Je n'ai pas compris pourquoi j'avais un résultat en ligne avec kubuntu, car j'ai fait comme d'habitude avec le terminal ("konsole" je crois sur kubuntu). J'avais déjà rencontré ce problème lors d'un échange précédent.

Les photos des vignettes demeurent absentes dans RawTherapee.
Réinstaller xubuntu me semble un peu compliqué pour moi ...
PS: Avec xubuntu, le texte apparaît correctement avec la me manip.
